The Old Castle

The Old Castle is a category B listed dwelling in East Saltoun, originally constructed in the early 18th century. Having fallen into significant disrepair, it was restored and altered between 1980 and 1981, returning to use as a private residence. Our proposals form a highly-glazed kitchen, dining and living space, tucked behind an existing garage to limit visibility from the surrounding conservation area while remaining open to the garden. They are deliberately lightweight and contemporary, contrasting with the solidity of the existing house and maintaining clarity between old and new.
